G.fast sales should accelerate in 2018, with British Telecom, AT&T, and nbn firmly committed. Megachip, an $800M Japanese company agrees and led Sckipio's new funding round. Sckipio is one of the two industry leaders. Even vendors who had been single-sourced on G.fast chips are now designing systems based around non-U.S. chips.
The U.S. confrontation with ZTE & Huawei is worrying Broadcom customers around the world. Trump is unlikely to invoke sanctions against Nokia-Alcatel, but even Donald's friends say he can be unpredictable. The rumor in the industry is that Alcatel DSLAMs were making their way to Iran through middlemen in the Emirates. I've never confirmed that, but Nokia surely has a contingency plan. Dealings with Iran were the key charges against ZTE.
CTO Rami Verbin is one of the key contributors to G.fast design and standards.
Rami proposed dynamic time assignment in standards, which allows switching capacity from upstream to downstream. In practice, that makes for much higher peak speeds.
DSLAMs with Sckipio SCK23000 2nd Generation chipsets are now in trials at several telcos. Using 212 MHz of spectrum allows them to reach 2 gigabit speeds of combined upload and download, On-chip vectoring supports up to 96 ports of cascading DSLAMs without requiring an external vectoring engine.
They were the first to support G.fast bonding, which they now can do with the full 212a bandwidth. That allows speeds up to ~ 8 GHz in the laboratory and longer reach in the field.
My building is natural for G.fast and I wish it were available. Verizon has fiber about 75 feet away but refuses to service ~200 apartments on my block. New York has taken Verizon to court because they are in clear violation of their franchise agreement to service the whole city.
If there were any CLECs left around here, my building could be very profitable.
